Arms

arm muscles drawing

When arms are tired and achy

from

lifting to love the growing babe,

typing to make the money,

stirring and rolling to make the food,

pushing to hold the yoga pose and

tensing to hold the stress,

be glad you have them because some women don’t.

Be glad the only arms that concern you (at home, today) are your own

of flesh, blood and tissue,

and not those that kill children of all ages and races.

At approximately six percent of your body weight each,

your arms make life lighter.

If only we could hug them both at once.

Freelance Spring

vintage ladies spring fashion

Well, it’s Spring… or so they tell us. A year ago right now it was in the high 80s and I was teaching my newborn to like Roxette. Today, I’m wearing a scarf in the house and she’s napping in a hat with ear flaps. Oh well.

Still we soldier on. After the magnanimous festivities of last weekend – which was all about Iris’ first birthday and Saint Patrick’s Day, and lasted until Wednesday – I’m ready for a regular workday, a detox diet and a weekend where all I have to do is put away onsies and steam a sweet potato.

Flat Butts and Joint Settling

princess leia and jabba the hut star wars

I need a health check.

(I may not look like Jabba, but I’m getting a sense of that flabby, I’ve been sitting too much feeling.)

As I’ve mentioned before, work is picking up, and that’s an excellent thing.

But. There’s the butt. It’s sitting – a lot.

While I feel like I bounced back pretty quickly after Iris was born, I’m still not quite where I was before I got pregnant, and I have some pants I really want to wear again.

Checkin’ In

blue eueball drawingWhatever. My time is so very limited; that’s the picture I went with.

Besides, when I looked up “peek” to try to find an image, I got mostly naughty things.

Anyway.

I miss you! Things have been quite busy work-wise, and the baby certainly isn’t becoming any less demanding of my attention. Needless to say, the blog is the one getting a vacation this year.

But it’s good. First of all, we neeeeeed the money. I mean, I never became a writer with the sole purpose of getting rich, but we’ve been cutting it close. I mean, to the point of buying non-organic eggs.

First world problems, I know.

It’s actually nice to be working, really working, again. While I still spend a lot of time being maternal (which is spectacular), I do need a chance, here and there, to strut my stuff as a ghost writer/web consultant/t-crosser and i-dotter.

And, I’ll simply never beĀ  a mommy blogger. Iris is my priority, my prize and my favorite pass time, but my blog is for me – like a champagne bubble bath or a Tudors marathon. It was around before her time, and will hopefully occupy me once she no longer requires my 24/7 services (perish the thought).

So, one day I’ll be back, three days a week and adhering to topic guidelines. For now, take care, behave yourselves and tip your servers.

I’ve Got a Grumpy Tummy

Just so we’re all clear:

I’m 13 weeks pregnant. Today. We are now officially in the second trimester of this happy little project!

Our baby’s prenatal names thus far include: Numpin, Grumpy and Bok Choy, often coupling the “Grumpy” with whatever the preggo sites use for fetal size comparisons: The Grumpy Sesame Seed, The Grumpy Olive, The Grumpy Lime… It amuses me, although my mother refuses to attach any word that implies less than angelic and adorable to the wee one. She’ll be an excellent grandma.
