Anticipating Thaw

four colored ice balls snow

My favorite thing about Winter is Spring cleaning.

I recognize the necessary death and destruction of spent foliage and harmful microbes that the cold temperatures bring. I appreciate the sense of clean slates, quiet reflection and beauty in silence and solitude.

But I like the rebirth better. I want it sooner. Maybe I should live somewhere with a shorter Winter. Because these days, I spend

too much time

in my house, and I am

too frequently reminded

of all those projects that need doing. The foundation, the garage, the kitchen counters… all better tackled in dry, mild weather. Winter makes me feel a little

too helpless and dormant, and that’s when the demons creep in. Nasty buggers.

And this year we haven’t even gotten to say “vortex.” What is the point?

My point is in the tip of my nose, and I’m directing it toward March April May. The most beautiful time of the year.

For today, I make lists of all the little tasks Spring will hold, and count the growing days until we can again clear the air of frigid dust and shuttered windows.

Scotland Dreamscapes

I went to Scotland once. This travel journal makes me want to go back.

Our trip happened in the summer of 2003. The beauty of that place was like nothing I’d ever seen before, and the travel bug took root. I clearly remember our Scottish bus driver frequently referring to his homeland as “God’s Country.”

Enjoy!

Natura Magica

shimmering shores vadhoo maldives bioluminescence

If the maples, squirrels and rain aren’t inspiring enough to make you passionate about environmental preservation, what about a glowing, sparkling shoreline?

Without science, nature is like magic. Explained by science, nature is magic. No matter how clearly you explain to me how a sea creature can glow like this, I will be awestruck, and like a child seeing her first Disney fairy tale. The more I learn about this world of ours, the more I find it devastatingly beautiful. I want to go everywhere.

Check out some of the most magical looking nature out there (as far as we know), and see where it takes your mind. If you decide to go, please take me with you.

Helpful hint: Hit the blue “Prev Page” button at the top. I didn’t design it – just sharing it.
