Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Anticipating copious amounts of parade candy…

Turns out March is about as busy as December around here.

But that’s no excuse to not wish you and yours a season bursting with music, good food and every beautiful shade of green there is.

So far we’ve had Family Day, the parade and a solid Saint “Practice” Day. The 17th itself will be a nice combination of third birthday fun and shenanigating down at the pub.

Over the last week we’ve had a lot of sun and no new snow, and there’s nothing so lovely as seeing grass and wide sidewalks as we head out to the festivities. Just makes everything that much better.

Whether you’re celebrating or not, take a minute to enjoy the waning of winter… it can never come too soon.

Faces of the Irish

mom toddler girl tongue out

Girl likes to party.

Another Michigan Irish Music Festival under our belts. Iris is, obviously, an old pro.

We even managed to locate a decent amount of vegetarian/pescetarian food. Iris ate her weight in tuna wrap, enjoyed a hot chocolate and found an age appropriate dance partner.

Hubs and I decided to make Sunday domestically productive, and will look forward to free-flowing gutters come the next rain storm.

Quite a weekend.

Michigan Irish Music Festival, 2013

mother toddler festival tent crackers

This weekend, we said to heck with responsibility and drove out to Muskegon for the annual Michigan Irish Music Festival.

Iris looks like a bit of a disgruntled leprechaun here, with a mouth full of peanut butter crackers. She’s no doubt wondering about the deep fried Snickers bar and spiral cut potato fries she got to enjoy two years ago, when I was about three months pregnant. We kept things moderate with wet bean burritos this time.

Although the weather was cool, and a few favored friends were absent, we kept warm with stout and dance, and spent a little time with other beloved friends. One of the best things was that between songs, after Iris had been spinning circles and stomping a pudgy leg, everyone, including our toddler, would clap. Iris assumed, of course, that the applause was for her, and beamed at the crowd with her own “Yyyyaaaaaayyy!!!”

Unlike with festivals past, we went home at about 10pm, rather than crash at the nearby Holiday Inn at 4am. I admit it was nice to wake up without a headache.

My Boyfriend, He Be a Rockstar

This is my husband. He plays keyboard in a band when he’s not handling dead bodies at the airport or rocking out on our upright grand.

Sometimes I like to call him my boyfriend. He was my boyfriend for five years, when we were young and so in love – good times. We’re still young and (even more) in  love, but now and then it’s fun to feel younger and in newer love. You get it.

Anyway, this is him, and I want to take a second to spotlight him as the most important person in my life. He’s truly a rockstar husband.
